Our natural hotel in Carinthia: architectural jewel & forerunner

Did you know that our hotel has existed since the 1970s? At the time, local architect Othmar Egger was commissioned to build a hotel building. He thought ahead though and planned an extremely modern building open on all sides with windows that provide a view into the distance out into the Nock Mountain Biosphere Reserve. His hotel was to become a place radiating peace and strength. Guests were to also feel this outer peace inside themselves.  A place that has the landscape close to its heart. A place that enters into harmony with nature. Visionary, sustainable and genuine.

We follow Othmar Egger's vision to this day. This is how we have committed ourselves to sustainable tourism in all areas of our hotel:

• We operate a fully sustainably powered building, with 100% green electricity. Of this, more than 80% comes from hydropower
• We collect rainwater and treat it
• If something is felled in the forest, it is used both as firewood and for district heating
• We carefully separate waste and avoid packaging wherever possible. We feed organic waste to the game in the nearby forest.
• For more than 10 years we have been using an all-round soap, sustainably produced in Austria, which you will find in every room.
• We choose only the best materials for rooms and interior design. We prefer to use traditional craftsmanship wherever possible and attach great importance to small details that make a difference.
• We offer a cuisine that focuses on regionality and seasonality. We celebrate the culinary treasures of our homeland!

Allergy sufferers can look forward to a pollen-free holiday with us in St. Oswald. They can put their constant struggles with hay fever, which gets particularly tough during the summer, behind. We at the Hotel St. Oswald are focused on providing holiday experiences that are responsible for people and the environment. Right outside our hotel door, the nature reserve of the Nock Mountains is waiting to be discovered by you. As diverse as the nature here is the range of outdoor activities, with which you can immerse yourself in the natural idyll of the Biosphere Reserve in Carinthia as you enjoy the wonderful pristine nature and beauty of the surroundings.

On guided adventure hikes you can explore the unique panoramic landscape of the Nock Mountains. Our hiking guides, the biosphere park rangers, are sure to transmit their passion for the region. Do you want to keep on hiking? Take advantage of the opportunity to discover the famous Alps-Adriatic Trail. The route extends over 150 kilometres from the glacier to the sea. Our nature hotel is perfectly located on three of its stages. This intense active and natural experience takes you through the most beautiful parts of Carinthia. Would you like to take a break in between?  Take advantage of the transport service of the entire region and travel free of charge up to Lake Millstatt.

Would you prefer to get around on two wheels? When it comes to biking, we also focus on genuinely natural active experiences. At the Intersport Rent Bad Kleinkirchheim you can rent your e-bike and this will be serviced for you in the service and repair shop. We have all the equipment and infrastructure you need, of course, such as charging stations, to make sure nothing can stop you enjoying an all-round experience.

We do not want to deprive you of a little extra when you need it. Your sporting activities on the mountain can be accompanied on request by a packed lunch with regional delicacies and our sustainable drinking bottle, Emil. We also offer a nice souvenir to you to take home, by the way!
